MIC Special: TE2010 Interviews – Scot Project
Deze week zullen we interviews met diverse topartiesten plaatsen die te zien zullen zijn op Trance Energy 2010. De eerste van deze interviews kun je hier lezen. De eer is aan: Scot Project! (in English ofcourse)
A mixture of past and future is what this interview is about, and of course the upcoming edition of Trance Energy! The following questions have been sent in by some fans and myself as the interviewer. Have fun!
1. Mr. Zenker, thank you for this interview. Are you excited for this years edition of Trance Energy?
Of Course, excited as always, unique events are always special, even It will be my 4th time at Trance Energy.
2. You’ve been in the business and on the top for so long. Isn’t it all just a ‘been there done that’ feeling on stage? Do you need to keep yourself motivated and if so: how?
NO not at all! I think if the point comes and I just do it as “business as usual” I would stop doing it! Music is my passion and it always will be. After all those years I am still excited about producing music and Dj´ing. I don’t need motivation, I love doing what I do and I am quite grateful that I came that far and still be part of it!
3. On to your productions: Don’t you sometimes miss the ‘reverse bass’ of the old days?
I turned away from the traditional “reverse bass” a couple of years ago. I got a lil’ bit bored of it! But in some of my forthcoming productions I added it again in a slightly different form. It still works, especially after so many years of “avoiding” these basslines. Sometimes it is good to have a break from an overdone thing and come back with it quite fresh… never say never again!
4. Why didnt Scot Project go more in the direction of Hard Techno and Schranz, like some other of ze fellow German hardtrance artists?
I always loved trance, of course always a lil bit tougher, not too cheesy with all the stupid pop vocals. And Tech-trance is something I liked from the beginning , so there was no point to switch to hard-techno or schranz. Even I like that and I use elements from that, but in general I still like to produce the tougher edge of trance.. back then it was hard-trance, now it is more tech-trance.

5. Considering the technological breaktrough: Do you ever feel the urge to release your older tracks (like overdose) digitally?
I work on my back catalogue to release them all digital, The only problem is that I have most tracks/masters on DAT tapes and it will take a while to find them all. But most of them will have a digital re-release soon.
6. “I want you love, “feelin me”, “how deep is your love”. Why can so many tracks of your be connected in one way or another to love?
True, some of my tracks have “love” titles, but I released so many others with different names, like O(overdrive), Future is now, no rougher, outerspace, rock, hands up etc. Most of my tracks are named by the sample I used. None of the vocals were planned, they came by coincidence , or they simply fit in the song.
7. What kind of equipment are you using nowadays, both to produce and to perform with?
The most important thing is of course my Computer with logic pro and all the countless software synths. But I still use some hardware in my productions. Not all of them but still love my all time favourite babies like the virus, Andromeda, nordlead or ms 2000. I wouldn’t want to miss them.
8. Some questions about your upcoming work: When is your A2 album due to come out?
Always a good question
I planned it a while ago. Nearly all tracks are ready to go, but just recently my distributor (discomania) had to close their business and at the moment I am looking for a new adequate distribution partner, once this is done, A2 is ready to go! It will be a personal reflection of my trance –styles from the softer to the tougher edge, a diverse album like most of my dj-sets. The first single release will be G(ghost) and will be out very soon.
Apart from the album, I just finished 4 new remixes and 2 collaboration tracks with some well known artists, this will be quite an interesting year! Over 16 tracks and remixes are waiting for their release and many more things are planned.
9. And can we expect a new Tocs single in the near future?
Yes, Tocs 3 is ready, expected to be released soon.
10. What can we expect from your performance on Trance Energy 2010? Classics perhaps? Why should we come and see Scot Project?
I played last year at the Classix stage, so I wont play classics this year, maybe some bootlegs I made of past anthems, but I will definitely play loads of my new productions, remixes, edits ,bootlegs, alongside with my favourite tunes at the moment. It will be a nice (unfortunately short) journey from soft to harder edge of trance!
Why Scot Project? Again a good question! But, If you like a large spectrum of trance , from soft to the tougher edge, you cant miss him, barely no one else is able to play at hard events as well as trance events.. unique!
*with thanks to Globalhardtrance.com for some of the questions.
